A 20-year-old girl pleaded guilty in a magistrate's court here yesterday on charges of cheating a man aged 30 to deceive the victim to marry him and handed the money RM17, 000.
The accused, Noor Ain Kamaruddin, who comes from Tanah Merah make the confession before the Magistrate Nik Habri Muhammad after the charge was read a court interpreter.
Court, however, set 26 April for sentencing.
According to the first indictment, in June 2011, Noor Ain Kamarudin had met a man named Mohd Azwadi Mat Husin by posing as another girl named Nur Azmi Shamemey for memperdayakannya to believe what he said.
Therefore Noor Ain committed the offense punishable under Section 419 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment may extend to seven years and shall be liable to a fine or to both.
While the second charge, Noor Ain has deceived the same victim to marry him and dishonestly inducing him to submit a sum of RM17, 000 in stages to the account of the accused.
Thus the accused committed the offense punishable under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of not less than one year and not more than 10 years and with whipping, and shall also be liable to fine.
During the proceedings, the accused appealed to the court to sentence him eliminated.
Cases handled by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Salam Yusoff and bail of RM5, 000 offered.
