Prisoners died while in police

A prisoner who was sentenced to eight months in prison after being found guilty of hurting a dealer, Monday last week, was found dead in police station lockups Kampar, yesterday morning.

Man, M Ragu, 47, was found dead in lying in a cell at 8 o'clock in the morning by a guard lock that is deploying 11 other suspects for breakfast.

Pengganggur deceased person detained under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with weapons in a shop in Malim Nawar.

Perak deputy police chief Datuk A Paramasivam said Kampar Hospital Medical Officer confirmed that the man died when called to the lock.

"During the incident, the old man lived alone in the cell. In addition to the medical officer, the Magistrate Court was present and confirmed that there are no elements of crime.

"The body taken to the Kampar Hospital and then to the King of Queens Bainun Hospital for post-mortem," he said at a press conference at the State police headquarters here yesterday.

He said the post-mortem found the cause of death was Pulmonary embolism "(PE) as well as confirming there were no effects of traumatic injury on his body.

"PE caused major arteries clogged lungs causing symptoms difficulty breathing, chest pain and result in low blood pressure and possible sudden death.

"Actually, Ragu brought to Taiping Prison today (yesterday) after sentenced last Friday and he has a 18 year track record from 1985," he said.

Asked about the allegations of family members who are not satisfied with the police action, Paramasivam directed the district police chief Superintendent Ng Kong Soon to complete the investigation as soon as possible.

"I ask everyone not to make any speculation as appropriate investigation will be conducted. We never protect any and if any party is responsible, action will be taken in accordance with the law, "he said.
