The world's largest crocodile dead in Philippines


Crocodiles are recognized as the biggest saltwater crocodile in the world found dead on Tuesday after the state supine with flatulence in a pond in Bunawan ecotourism park in the Philippines yesterday.

Bunawan Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde said the crocodile, known as Lolong, takes its name from one of the wildlife officers who died while on the way to Bunawan, become a major tourist attraction since arrested 17 months ago.
His death sparked sadness and depressed mood among locals.

While speaking at a press conference in the province of Agusan del Sur on Sunday, Elorde said he plans to hold a special ceremony before Lolong carcass preserved in a local museum as a reminder.

Throughout the city and region Lolong saddened by death, he said, adding that the crocodile was about 50 years old.

Guinness World Records declared the saltwater crocodile Lolong as the world's largest captive to measure 6.17 meters (20:24 ft), surpassing a crocodile Austrlia five meters long (17 feet) and weigh almost a ton.
