Beckham played the first time

David Beckham is likely to play for Paris St Germain for the first time when the Ligue 1 leaders against arch-rivals Olympique Marseille on Sunday next, coach Carlo Ancelotti said yesterday.

The former England captain joined the French club as independent players last month but needs to improve his fitness levels before challenging place in the main squad.


When asked whether Beckham will be fit enough to be listed, Ancelotti told the French daily newspaper L'Equipe: "I think maybe it's against Marseille.

"We will see a few days after this, but perhaps the time is too short for him for the match against Sochaux (this week)."
