SPR set date PRU13 10 April

The Election Commission (SPR) will hold a special meeting next Wednesday to determine the date of nomination and the general election vote in the 13th (PRU13).

SPR secretary Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed Baria said the meeting will be held at the EC headquarters in Putrajaya will set a date for early voting and determining electoral choices
the general election.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced the dissolution of the House of Representatives last Wednesday, which will pave the way for PRU13.

As at midday all was dissolved Dun.

"The EC received a declaration by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Shah Mua'adzam the dissolution the House of Commons on 3 April (Wednesday). For the Legislative Assembly (DUN) in every state except Sarawak Dun, the SPR has received a declaration of dissolution of assembly respectively, "it said in a statement here today.

He said the dissolution of the House of Representatives and Dun is in accordance with the Federal Constitution and the State Constitution, which gave way to the SPR to provide PRU13.

He pointed to Clause (4) of Article 55 of the Federal Constitution, the SPR must hold a general election within 60 days from the date of dissolution.

"A similar provision was contained in the State Constitution for the purpose of holding elections for Dun," he said.
