Vietnamese jailed, fined RM10,000 for bribing JPJ officer

The Sessions Court today sentenced a Vietnamese national to a day's jail and fined him RM10,000 in default three months' jail after he pleaded guilty to bribing an enforcement assistant of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) last year.

Judge Mohd Nasir Nordin handed down the sentence on Truong Minh Thao, 26, a construction worker, after he pleaded guilty to giving RM200 as a bribe to Mohd Noorhakim Idrous as an inducement not to issue him a summons for driving without a driving licence when stopped at the Skudai toll plaza here at 10.40 pm on Oct 11 last year.
Prosecuting officer Mohd Sajori Martubi of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) appeared for the prosecution. Truong was not represented. -- BERNAMA
