ZANDRA Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi (pic) led three other Malaysians into the women's semi-finals of the International Championships in Nagoya, Japan yesterday.
Zandra, a former Czech Open champion, posted lines of 279, 225, 214, 265, 246, 211, 236, 195, 201 for a total of 2,072 pinfalls to finish sixth in the Masters.
Asian Championship singles gold medallist Sin Li Jane finished ninth with a nine-game 2,013 series followed by last year's runner-up Dayang Khairuniza Dhiyana (17th - 1,976) and reigning world champion Jacqueline Sijore Jenelee (19th - 1,972).
Two-time world champion Esther Cheah (29th - 1,906) and Shalin Zulkifli (36th - 1,892) failed to make the top-24 bracket for the semi-finals.
Singapore's AMF World Cup champion Shayna Ng topped the standings on 2,162 ahead of second placed American Liz Johnson (2,150) and Indonesian Tannya Roumimper (2,140).
Team manager Cheah Ban Cheng said his four bowlers showed tremendous fighting spirit to make the semi-finals.
"I hope it will raise their confidence for the crucial stages of the tournament.
"Zandra has been the most impressive but others are also doing well," said Ban Cheng yesterday.
In the men's section, Muhd Rafiq Ismail, a member of the Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress special squad, finished ninth on 1,409 after the completion of six games.
Muhd Nur Aiman Khairuddin (18th - 1,349) and AMF World Cup champion Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malek (21st - 1,339) are also in contention to qualify for the semi-finals, which was played late yesterday. By Ajitpal Singh
