South Korean star PSY's infectious tune Gangnam Style earned him the Song Of The Year award at Samsung Galaxy The 27th Golden Disk Awards last night.
The 35-year-old singer wasn't in town to accept the award himself, but he thanked his fans for their support in a pre-recorded message.
"I feel really bad that I couldn't make it to Malaysia. I am really grateful for the overwhelming support and love that you've given me.
"I've dreamed (of winning) the Song Of The Year award, like other artistes. I just did!" he said in the video.
"To make up for my absence, I will prepare an amazing performance for next year's Golden Disk Awards. I will come up with even better music and choreography. Thank you for honouring me with this award."
The song, whose music video garnered more than a billion views on YouTube, had put him on the world map and led to numerous appearances on American television.
Gangnam Style also won him the Golden Disk Awards Song Division award.
The event honours South Korean artistes based on the total combined sales volume of the albums, songs and judges' votes.
Artistes who released their albums after December 2011, and albums and songs that were released or sold between January and December last year, qualified for the awards.
Thirteen of K-Pop's biggest stars were in attendance last night, including G-Dragon, T-ara, Miss A, Lee Hi, Ailee, Secret, K.Will, f(x), Teen Top, Huh Gak, Epik High, Sistar and BAP.
In between the award presentations, each act performed for the 10,000-strong crowd.
The winners of the Golden Disk Awards Song Division are T-ara (Lovey Dovey), Miss A (Touch), Sistar (Alone), 2NE1 (I Love You), Huh Gak (People Who Love Me), f(x) (Electric Shock), Big Bang (Fantastic Baby), Secret (Poison), K.Will (I Need You) and G-Dragon (Crayon).
Other winners include BAP, Lee Hi and Ailee (New Rising K-Pop Star); Big Bang (MSN International Award); Teen Top (Single Album Of The Year) and Epik High (Best Hip Hop Star).
Yesterday was the last day of the two-day event. On the first day, K-pop group Super Junior was presented with the awards for Album Of The Year, Golden Disk Award Album Division and MSN Southeast Asia popularity award.
Korean stars SHINee, KARA, Beast, FT Island, CN Blue, Infinite, EXO, Juniel, 4Minute, BTOB and B1A4 attended the first day of the ceremony.
