2 families homeless after fire

Two families were left with only the clothes on their backs when a midday fire destroyed their wooden houses in Kampung Sebelah Tambang Badak, near here, yesterday.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the 12.10pm blaze.
One of the victims, Mohd Fodzi Arshad, was out grocery shopping, while his wife was picking up their son from a kindergarten nearby when the fire broke out.
"By the time I got home, all had been reduced to ashes," said the 44-year-old snacks hawker.
He added that his daughters were in school at the time.
Fodzi's neighbour, Ashaari Ahmad, also lost his home in the incident.
The 57-year-old said he was having lunch with his wife and three children when he saw the flames.
"The next thing I knew, the whole house was engulfed in fire.
"Everything happened so quickly, but we did not panic and managed to rush out of the house."
Derga state assemblyman Cheah Soon Hai said each family would receive RM1,000 and other forms of assistance from various authorities, including the state Welfare Department.
