The suspects who killed an 80-year-old temple caretaker and stole the golden statue of a deity before melting it into gold bars have been arrested.
The 11 suspects included a teenager, a Bangladeshi, an Indian national and two gold traders.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Kesah said one suspect was aged 16 while the others were in their 20s and 40s.
The first suspect was arrested soon after the incident and led police to the recovery of five gold bars weighing 1.8kg and RM44,000.
Caretaker P. Muthu was found dead with the throat slit inside the Nattukottai Chettiar Temple in Lebuh Penang on Dec 19.
A gold statue and three gold chains worth RM500,000 were found stolen.
