Khalid Abu Bakar new Police Chief

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was appointed as the new Police Chief effective this Friday.

Director of the Criminal Investigation Department in Bukit Aman, Datuk Seri Bakri Zinin has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief of Police effective the same date.

Khalid replace Tan Sri Ismail Omar, the contractual appointment expires tomorrow. According to the statement of the Prime Minister, the appointment of Bakri also effective the same date.

"In accordance with Article 140 (4) and Article 140 (5) of the Constitution, His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has approve two special appointments took effect May 17," he said.

Khalid, 56, who hails from Seremban and has a law degree from the International Islamic University (IIU), underwent training as an inspector at the Police Training Centre on December 5, 1976, and has served as Head of Department of Anti-Narcotics Orissa in 1997.

Six years later he was appointed as Head of Police Management Pahang and in the same year was appointed police chief town.

In 2005, he was appointed as Head of State Police before he was appointed as Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Department in Bukit Aman and in June 2007 as Head of the NSW Police.

In 2010, he was appointed as Director of the Department of Homeland Security and Public Order Bukit Aman before he was appointed as Deputy Chief of Police a year later.

Bakri, 59, who hails from Penampang, Sabah, holds a Diploma in Police Science National University of Malaysia (UKM), began service in the police on 6 November 1975 as inspector of probation.

He served as police chief Kudat, Sandakan police chief, deputy police chief of Kota Kinabalu, Seremban deputy police chief, police chief of Lahad Datu, Cheras OCPD Dang Wangi police chief.

Bakri also served as Assistant Director of Criminal Intelligence Unit D4 Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department and was appointed Head of Criminal Investigation Department Sabah in 2003 and two years later was appointed as Sabah Deputy Police Commissioner.

In 2006, he was appointed as Deputy Director (Intelligence / Operations) CID, Bukit Aman Narcotics and became director a year later. In 2008 he was appointed Director of the Criminal Investigation Department in Bukit Aman.
