Bus ticket price increased 10 percent

SPAD
Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) allows only express bus operators charge an additional 10 percent by Hari Raya, compared to 30 percent of demand.

Approval is effective for all express buses and bus travel supplement, from July 8 until September 8th.

SPAD Communications Manager, Noor Hisham Mohd Taha, said the move would help defray the operating costs of bus operators to provide additional services due to high demand from consumers during the festive season.

SPAD is an initiative to reduce the burden of bus operators pending a decision on the proposed express bus fare increase of up to 30 percent, it said in a statement, here, today.

He commented on some bus operators refuse to sell tickets for the coming festive season following a SPAD pending on the proposed express bus fare increase that.

Elaborating, Noor Hisham said the tough demands fulfilled before the festive season as a comprehensive process of consultation and study on the matter are still underway and it will be announced before the end of this year.

Meanwhile, President of Pan Malaysia Bus Operators Association (PMBOA), Datuk Asfar Ali, when contacted, said he was surprised by the decision SPAD allows only 10 percent additional charges imposed on passengers.

He said the association would stand by the express bus fare increase proposal as soon as possible.

I was surprised that the decision to increase an additional 10 percent charge is made without talking to us and additional charges are just normal every time the festival.

It still does not solve the problem of escalating operating costs to be borne bus operators such as tolls, insurance, rental of premises, lubricants, tires and new wage work, he said.
